The new "Air France" hub extension of the T2 terminal was built by the Aéroport de Lyon Saint-Exupéry on an existing aircraft apron. Installation of the 21 Combi Box pits, 400Hz, in the existing pavement proved simpler and less costly than one may think. It required excavating a volume with dimensions slightly exceeding those of the pit and digging a 10-meter long trench to the terminal building for connection to the technical room below ground level. After levelling, the pit is kept in place with a small amount of lean concrete. When set, the voids around the pit can then be further backfilled and compacted as appropriate. The most challenging in this project was for Combibox to respect the tight planning. The first 10 pits have been delivered 6 weeks after receipt of the purchase order and the last batch after only 9 weeks.
